It was Ringo Starr who came up with the phrase ‘eight days a week’: a joke about their frantic work schedule. When the Beatles first started in the US they were so overbooked that there was not enough time in the day.  And while Ron Howard’s Documentary (Frost/Nixon, Rush), tells all about how overwhelming the bands touring schedule became. The Beatles have been in remembered Ron Howard’s film and still live here in Our Music.

A still from Ron Howard’s Beatles Documentary Eight Days a Week

Howard ’s documentary follows the band from Ringo’s arrival in 1962 to their final paid live concert in 1966. This film had all the concerts and live performances crammed into a two-hour movie.

“We were force-grown, like rhubarb,” John Lennon says in one of many well-chosen phrase. Howard shows us the band from the beginning all the way to the recording of their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Howard and his research team have put together a film with concert footage and interview – plus conversations with Ringo. and Paul

A few seem like they’re there to give Howard’s largely US-centric film a more distinctive British flavor: it’s sweet that Richard Curtis feels his rom-com scripts owe a debt to the Beatles’ madcap early media personas, for instance, though it’s not clear why anyone watching this should be over the moon to hear it.
